§ 20-12 MARTINSVILLE CODE <br /> <br />struction and shall have smooth and easily cleanable surfaces. A white or light colored <br />waterproof. interior finish, which will withstand repeated brushing, scr. ubbing and cleaning <br />procedures, shall completely line the pool tothe coping. <br />(Ord. of 5-10-77, § 5-1.513]) . . -i .. <br /> <br />Sec. 20-13. Shape, contour, slope, etc. <br /> <br /> Swimming pools shall be designed and constructed of such shape and contour that <br />efficient and safe control of the bathers can be accomplished. In water depths under five (5) <br />feet, the slope of the bottom shall not exceed one foot in twelve (12) feet. Pool walls shall be <br />vertical from the break point to the shallow end to within one foot of the finished floor of the <br />pool. <br />(Ord..of 5-10-77, § 9-1.514]) <br /> <br /> Sec. 20-14. Deck, <br /> <br /> (a) There shall be a deck at least four (4) feet wide extending around the entire perimeter <br /> of a swimming pool. The deck shall be constructed of concrete or other material having a <br /> nonslip but smooth finish. The deck shall have a pitch of not less than one-eighth of an inch <br /> nor more than five-eights of an inch to the foot and be so designed as to conduct drainage away <br /> from the pool area in a manner that will not create or maintain pools of water or create 'a <br /> health nuisance. <br /> <br /> (b) If the recirculation system is designed for water to enter the bottom portion of the pool <br />and overflow the top, adequate drainage of the scum and floating material from the deck must <br />be provided. This may be by a continuous drain or by multiple drains. In multiple drains, each <br />drain grating shall have a total orifice area of at least four (4) times the cross-sectional area of <br />the drain pipe, which shall have a minimum diameter of two and one-half (2V2) inches. In the <br />use of drain channels, continuous around the perimeter of the pool, the channel grating shall <br />be designed so as not to create a hazard to fingers and toes and shall be resistant to corrosion. <br />(Ord. of 5-10-77, § 9-1.515], [7]) <br /> <br /> Sec. 20-15. Ladders and steps. <br /> <br /> Two (2) or more ladders shall be provided for all swimming pools that have a perimeter <br />greater than one hundred (100) feet and one ladder shall be provided for pools having a <br />perimeter of one hundred (100) feet or less. Steps below the water level projecting out into the <br />pool are prohibited. Treads of all steps, ladders or other means shall be of nonslip construc- <br />'tion. Each recessed step area shall be provided with one or more handrails. <br />(Ord. of 5-10-77, § 9-1.516]) <br /> <br />Sec. 20-16. Overflow facilities. " <br /> <br /> (a) Provision shall be made for removal of floating material and scum from the surface of <br />the water of a swimming pool. If a recessed typ.e of gutter located .near thet0p of the walls is to <br />be used, the gutter shall have a minimum depth of three (3) inches and shall be of a design <br />which will permit satisfactory cleaning of the overflow channel.
