SWIMMING POOLS <br /> <br />§ 20-60 <br /> <br />Sec. 20-56. Access for inspections. <br /> <br /> As a condition for the issuance of an operator's permit under section 20-55, the operator or <br />person in charge of any public swimming pool shall, upon request of the director of public <br />health, permit access to all parts of the establishment at all reasonable times for the purpose <br />of making inspections. <br />(Ord. of 5-10-77, § 9-1.15) <br /> <br />Sec. 20-57. Reserved. <br /> <br />Sec. 20-58. Access by bathers. <br /> <br /> Access to a public swimming pool by bathers shall be provided through the bathhouse or <br />dressing room facilities, if possible. <br />(Ord. of 5-10-77, § 9-1.914]) <br /> <br />Sec. 20-59. Disinfection equipment; chlorinator room. <br /> <br /> (a) All public swimming pools shall be provided with chlorine-feeding equipment. The <br />chlorinating equipment shall be capable of applying a dose up to six (6) ppm of chlorine at the <br />rate of recirculation. Chlorine gas-feeding equipment and chlorine gas cylinders shall be <br />installed in an enclosed space or room separate from the filter room, equipped with a door <br />capable of being locked. SuCh room shall be equipped with a forced draft fan exhausting to the <br />outside '.from the floor level and a fresh air inlet shall be provided near the ceiling. The <br />exhaust fan discharge shall terminate at least twelve (12) feet above any area that may be <br />occupied by any person. Forced draft apparatus shall have sufficient capacity to exhaust the <br />contents of such room in not more than three (3) minutes. The chlorine gas tanks shall be <br />protected from direct sunlight and shall be fastened in place during storage and use. A <br />laboratory approved type gas mask shall be provided where chlorine gas is being utilized. This <br />shall be located accessible to, but outside of, the chlorinator room. ~ <br /> <br /> (b) Nothing in this section shall be construed as prohibiting any other method of disinfec- <br />tion or filtration equipment demonstrated to be of at least equal efficiency and which is <br />approved by the director of public health. <br />(Ord. of 5-10-77, § 9-1.719]) <br /> <br />Sec. 20-60. Lifeguards. <br /> <br /> There shall be a minimum of one lifeguard on duty at all times when a public swimming <br />pool is open for use. A minimum of one additional lifeguard shall be required for more than <br />forty (40) persons in the pool area and an additional lifeguard shall be required for each <br />additional forty (40) persons or fraction thereof. Any individual retained as a lifeguard shall <br />possess the qualifications for meeting the standards recommended by the American Red Cross <br />or YMCA training for lifesaving personnel. The director of public health may, depending on <br />the pool layout and the number of swimmers, require that more than the minimum number of <br />lifeguards be provided, in order 'to maintain proper safety standards.
