§ 20-34 MARTINSVILLE CODE <br /> <br /> Sec. 20-34. Filtration system Igenerally. <br /> <br /> (a) The recirculation system required ,by this article shall be equipped with a filtration <br />system that will f~l~er the entire content of the swimming pool within eight (8) or less hours at <br />the rate ~f ~hree 1(3) gallons or less per square foot of filter area for rapid; sand filters and <br />~z~enty 1(20) gallons or less per square foot of filter area for high-rate filters. Pressure filters <br />Shall be equipped with 'readily accessible air relief valves and with an access hole large <br />enough to permit inSpections~ maintenance and repair work. Each pressure filter. system shall <br />be equipped with a pressure gauge, at least four (4) inches in diameter, on the inlet and outlet <br />to indicate the pressure in pounds per square inch, and a sight glass that can be easily <br />removed for cleaning shall be provided on the waste discharge line. Gravity type filters shall <br />be equipped with loss-of-head gauges. <br /> <br /> (b) The filtration rate for diatomaceous earth filters and similar equipment may not <br />exceed one and 0ne-half (1%) gallons per square foot of filter area, with eight (8) hours <br />turnover of pool volume, unless continuous slurry feed is provided, in which case the rate shall <br />not exceed three (3) gallons per square foot of filter area. <br /> <br /> (c) Arrangements or equipment shall be provided for application of filter aid and for <br />proper precoating and cleaning of filter elements. All filters shall be so designed and' capable <br />of being cleaned or backwashed by use of the wash-water pump and the manipulation of <br />valves. In view of the constant change of design of such equipment, it will be necessary to <br />evaluate each system individually, and approval or rejection will be at the discretion of the <br />director of public health, based upon the need for protecting the health and safety of thos~ <br />using the pool. <br />(Ord. of 5-10-77, § 9-1.715]) <br /> <br />Sec..20-35. Filter room. <br /> <br /> (a) Any room containing the filtration equipment, pumps and other recirculation system <br />appurtenances for a swimming pool shall be finished in a light color and be provided with <br />adequate illumination and ventilation. The floor of the filter room shall be designed to provide <br />adequate drainage. The provision of any facility for discharging filter backwashing water onto <br />the filter 'room floor is strictly prohibited, and adequate provision shall be made for the <br />discharge of backwash water. All of the recirculation equipment in such room shall be <br />installed so that it is easily convenient to operate or repair. All entrances below ground <br />surface shall be by stairway and vertical door. Adequate headroom shall be provided above all <br />filters. Below ground filter rooms shall be provided with mechanical ventilation. <br /> <br /> (b) A placard shall be prominently displayed in the filter room showing the following <br />data: Size. of ~he swimming pool in feet and volume in gallons, capacity of the filters in square <br />feet and gallons per minute, capacity of the pumps in gallons per minute at' the appropriate <br />head in feet, head loss at which the filters should be backwashed and complete instructions for <br />operating the recirculation and disinfection equipment. <br />(Ord. of 5-10-77; §§ 9-1.712], 9-1.815]) <br /> <br />1194 <br /> <br /> <br />
