§ 9-33 MARTINSVILLE CODE. I~-"~ <br /> <br />Sec. 9-33. Oath. <br /> <br /> The fire marshal shall, before entering upon his duties, take an oath before an officer <br />authorized to administer oaths to faithfully discharge the duties of his office. <br />(Ord~ of 10-26-82, § 6) <br /> State law reference--Similar provisions, Code of Virginia, § 27,37. <br /> <br />Sec. 9-34. Training. <br /> <br /> The fire marshal shall exercise the powers conferred in this article only upon satisfactory <br />completion of prescribed in-service and advanced courses designed by the Criminal Justice <br />Services Commission, which courses shall be approved by the Virginia State Fire Services <br />Commission. <br />(Ord. of 10-26-82, § 5) <br /> <br />Sec. 9-35. Exercise of authority granted by state law. <br /> <br /> The fire marshal shall be empowered to exercise all authority granted to local fire <br />marshals in sections 27-30 through 27-37 of the Code of Virginia, including the summoning of <br />witnesses, taking of evidence, right of entry, power of arrest and other police powers as <br />appropriate. <br />(Ord. of 10-26-82, § 4) <br /> <br />Secs. 9-36--9-45. Reserved. <br /> <br />ARTICLE III. FIRE PREVENTION CODE* <br /> <br />Sec. 9-46. Enforcement. <br /> <br /> That certain Fire Prevention Code known as the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention <br />Code, duly adopted by the Virginia Board of Housing and Community Development pursuant <br />to the authority of section 27-97 of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as amended, shall be enforced <br />in the City of Martinsville, Virginia, by its local government, and the responsibility for said <br />enforcement is hereby assigned to the fire official, who shall be the city fire .marshal, and who <br />shall be empowered to exercise all the enforcement authority described and provided in said <br />SFPC. <br /> <br /> The Martinsville board of appeals is hereby designated as the appeals board to hear <br />appeals arisingfor the application of the provisions of "The Statewide Fire Prevention Code." <br />(Ord.
