December 14, 1999 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Joel M. Amos has announced his retirement from the <br /> Virginia Department of Transportation in December 1999, after 25 <br /> years of service to our community; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> Virginia, assembled in regular session assembled this the t4th day <br /> of December 1999, that said Council wishes to recognize and <br /> express its sincere gratitude and appreciation to Joel M. Amos, <br /> Resident Engineer for the Virginia Department of Transportation, <br /> for his work and efforts in making our community a better and safer <br /> place to live and work through the many transportation <br /> improvements completed during his long and productive career. <br /> <br /> Earl B. Reynolds, Jr., City Manager, stated, "Chris VVhitlow, Associate Planner in <br />the City's Community Development Office, has been chosen to participate in a Group <br />Study Exchange to New Zealand by the Rotary Foundation." Mayor Crabtree <br />responded, "Congratulations on this great opportunity. We look forward to what you <br />share upon your return." <br /> <br /> Brenda Prillaman, Customer Services Coordinator, and City Manager Reynolds <br />recognized those employees nominated for the quarterly service excellence award: <br />Richard Young, Public Works; Jim Minter, Police; and Cliff Niblett, Police. City Manager <br />Reynolds announced the winner, Mr. Niblett, and presented a $50 cash award. <br /> City Manager Reynolds introduced Ashley Odell, a student at Magna Vista High <br /> School who is participating in the Henry County Mentorship program through his office. <br /> Dewey P. Cashwell, Jr., Assistant City Manager, stated, "With Tult~ex's <br /> announcement, it is a difficult time for our community. The City has felt no limits in <br /> responding through the following ways: Taking part in a joint City-County effort to assist <br /> displaced employees; making contact with State and Federal legislators to provide <br /> assistance; referring donations and requests to help to the appropriate agencies; <br /> supporting the efforts of Christmas Cheer, Salvation Army, Men's Roundtable Club; <br /> <br /> <br />
