October 26, 1999 <br /> <br />was a concern of a hole for people to fall into [coal storage]." Vice Mayor Teague <br />asked, '~/hat about collocation?" Mr. Knox replied, "All towers located in the City would <br />encourage collocation. We're looking for up to four on this one." Council Member Roop <br />asked, "With all of the notices, you received no opposition?" Mr. Knox replied, "Correct. <br />Mr. Clark was not opposed to it, just concemed of the hole." Council Member Roop <br />asked, "1 assume that all this has no negative effect on the neighborhood?" Mr. Knox <br />replied, "Correct. It will have no effects on computers, radios, or physical body." City <br />Attorney David B. Worthy stated, 'q'he applicant also requested a 200' variance." Mr. <br />Knox stated, "Policy reads that any monopole must be at least 300' away from any <br />residential area. This pole will actually be 100' from a residential zone." Mr. Worthy <br />asked, "Did they get a variance from the Board of Zoning Appeals?" Mr. Knox replied, <br />"No, the special permit allows it." Council Member Roop asked, "Is this pole <br />collapsible?" Mr. Knox replied, "Yes." Council Member Roop asked, ''with the <br />variance, would it hinder future housing projects?" Mr. Knox replied, "It would limit the <br />size of any development." Mr. Worthy stated, "1 have a problem with the variance. I <br />don't think that this body has the right to grant it." Mayor Crabtree requested that Mr. <br />Worthy and Mr. Knox research this matter immediately. Mayor Crabtree declared the <br />Public Hearing open. Ward Armstrong, representing American Tower Corporation, <br />stated, 'Tm also representing Triton PCS, which is partially owned by AT&T. It will <br />provide digital cellular service for SunCom. American Tower Corporation has been <br />hired to install it. They are one of the largest tower companies, but they will not own it; <br />Crown Communications will own it. The federal government allows up to six cellular <br />services to locate in an area; SunCom will be the fourth in this area. Triton is not the <br /> <br /> <br />
