October 26, 1999 <br /> <br />2,43 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Speed Fest will attract many visitors to Martinsville- <br />Henry County in the future, enhancing our retail, tourist, hospitality <br />and food service businesses providing expansion of the tax base <br />and job growth; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia in regular session assembled October 26, 1999, that it <br />does: hereby thank and recognize Martinsville-Henry County <br />Chamber of Commerce, Martinsville Jaycees, Inc., Martinsville <br />Uptown Revitalization Association, Angler's Choice, Checkered <br />Flag Sports, and Coca-Cola for their contribution in supporting <br />economic growth in the City of Madinsville and Henry County. <br /> <br />Council presented the Resolution to Joe Cobbe, of the Martinsville-Henry County <br /> <br />Chamber of Commerce; Jeanne Lawson, of the Martinsville Jaycees; Debbie Hall, of <br /> <br />the Martinsville Uptown-Revitalization Association; and.Richard Lawhon, of Checkered <br /> <br />Flag Sports. Mr. Cobbe stated, "We met this morning to start planning for next year." <br /> <br /> Council considered business from the floor. Amy Lamp, of The., Partnership for <br /> <br />Progress, made a presentation, "Team Up with Textiles." Ms. Lamp stated, "It is a <br />program with Tultex and Vanity Fair to raise funds for local schools. Visit your nearest <br />textile outlet store during November 17 - 20, 1999. For each garment purchased, you <br /> <br />designate your favorite school to receive the credit. A total of $33,000 will be distributed <br /> <br />among each of our local schools based on the number of garments purchased." <br /> <br /> Mayor Crabtree expressed thanks. to Page Brockenbrough, of 907 Clarke Road, <br />representing the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department, for the Department's 50th <br />anniversary dinner and for their service to the citizens of Martinsville. Mr. <br /> <br />Brockenbrough responded, 'q'hank you for Council's support." <br /> <br />Mayor Crabtree acknowledged three generations of the Fred Martin family in <br /> <br />a~endance. <br /> <br /> <br />
