<br />and job growth; now, therefore,
<br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of .the City of Martinsville,
<br />Virginia, in regular session assembled October 26, 1999, that it
<br />does hereby thank and recognize The Partnership For Progress.
<br />
<br />Council presented the Resolution to Amy Lamp, representing The Partnership for
<br />
<br />Progress.
<br />
<br />Council considered adoption of a Resolution expressing appreciation to the
<br />
<br />Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce, Martinsville Jaycees,. Inc.,
<br />
<br />Martinsville Uptown Revitalization Association, Angler:s Choice, Checkered Flag Sports,
<br />
<br />and Coca-Cola for their sponsorship of Speed Fest. Council Member Haskell moved to
<br />
<br />adopt the following resolution; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the
<br />
<br />following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas,
<br />
<br />Haskell, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None; Absent (0) - None:
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce,
<br />Martinsville Jaycees, Inc., Martinsville Uptown Revitalization
<br />Association, Angler's Choice, Checkered Flag Sports, and Coca-
<br />Cola were the major sponsors of Speed Fest; and
<br />WHEREAS, Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce,
<br />Martinsville Jaycees, Inc., Martinsville Uptown Revitalization
<br />Association, Angler's Choice, Checkered Flag Sports, and Coca-
<br />Cola spent many hours of time and effort to plan and conduct
<br />Speed Fest; and
<br />WHEREAS, the festival conducted by Martinsville-Henry County
<br />Chamber of Commerce, Martinsville Jaycees, Inc., Martinsville
<br />Uptown Revitalization Association, Anglers Choice, Checkered
<br />Flag Sports, and Coca-Cola attracted approximately 30,000 visitors
<br />to Uptown Martinsville, creating good will, future visitors and retail
<br />customers, and helping to promote our visitors and tourism
<br />initiative; and
<br />WHEREAS, Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce,
<br />Martinsville Jaycees, Inc., Martinsville Uptown Revitalization
<br />Association, Angler's Gh0ice, Checkered Flag Sports, and Coca-
<br />Cola have made this project a regional attraction with potential for
<br />many successful years in the future; and
