241 <br /> <br />October 26, 1999 <br /> <br />A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, was held on October 26, 1999, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at <br /> <br />7:00 P. M., with Mayor Mark Crabtree presiding. Council Members present included: <br /> <br />Mark A. Crabtree, Mayor; M. Gene Teague, Vice Mayor; and Council Members Bruce <br /> <br />H. T. Dallas, Elizabeth H. Haskell, and Terry L. Roop. <br /> <br />Following delivery of the invocation by Council Member Dallas, Mayor Crabtree <br /> <br />welcomed everyone to the meeting. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Teague moved to approve, as amended, the Minutes of the October <br /> <br />12, 1999, meeting; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with <br /> <br />all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Haskell, Roop, Teague; <br /> <br />Nays (0) - None; Absent (0) - None. Vice Mayor Teague announced that all Minutes <br /> <br />since 1986 are now available on the City's website. <br /> <br />Council considered adoption of a Resolution expressing appreciation to The <br /> <br />Partnership for Progress for its contribution to the construction of the Farmer's Market. <br /> <br />Council Member Haskell moved to adopt the following resolution; the motion was duly <br /> <br />seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas <br /> <br />(5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Haskell, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None; Absent (0) - None: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The Partnership For Progress made a $10,000 <br />contribution to the new City of Martinsville's Farmers Market; and <br />WHEREAS, this contribution from The Partnership For Progress <br />helped to make possible the construction of this facility; and <br />WHEREAS, the new Farmer's Market will anchor the Church Street <br />entrance into the Uptown revitalization area; and <br />WHEREAS, the .new Farmer's Market will attract promotions, <br />vendors, customers, visitors and others into the City of Martinsville <br />and in particular the Uptown area, promoting and enhancing the <br />revitalization of the central business district; and <br />WHEREAS, the new Farmer's Market will attract many visitors to <br />Martinsville in the future, enhancing our retail, tourist, hospitality <br /> <br /> <br />
