In response to a question from Council Member Haskell, Mrs. <br /> <br />Pfillaman stated that a status of '?ending" on a concem meant that some action was being taken to <br />resolve the issue. Mayor Crabtree noted that although there had been more concerns expressed in the <br />current year than the previous year, fewer were in a pending status. Council Member Roop stated that the <br />longer such programs are in place the more activity and concerns they ,will generate. Mayor Crabtree then <br />opened the Town Meeting. Mrs. Thelma Pinkard came forward to speak, stating that there were <br />numerous problems in the Southside area. She cited two examples of residents who were moving out due <br />to these problems, and stated that all the Southside residents were taxpayers and should have a safe, well <br />kept environment, flee of vulgar language, dangerous traffic and traffic obstructions. Mrs. Pinkard stated <br />that she did not come to the meeting to put any race or individuals down, she came to ask Council to work <br />with Southside residents to make it a better and safer place to live. Mrs. Pinkard stated that she had seen <br />the Council come a long way, with increasing respect for citizens and improvements in the City. She <br />stated that she was hoping for an announcement on the award of the Community Development Block <br />Grant for Southside very soon. Mrs. Pinkard then complimented the Mayor for doing a good job and: <br />encouraged Council to keep working to bring Southside up to the same level as the rest of the City. <br />Mayor Crabtree then asked City Staff for an update on progress on the Southside Community <br />Development Block Grant application. Wayne Knox, Planning, Zoning and Housing Manager, stated that <br />there was no word yet from the Governors office on the grant awards. Mayor Crabtree then encouraged <br />Southside residents to call the Police when they witnessed drug or alcohol use by youth in the area. <br />Council Member Haskell noted that Mrs. Pinkard had organized a neighborhood meeting that afternoon, <br />which had included the Police Chief, Mr. Knox and others to discuss property maintenance issues, the <br />rental assistance progran% code enforcement, trespass laws, law enforcement issues and establishment of a <br />neighborhood watch program. Mr. Kalph Draper then inquired of Council whether the rumor of the City <br />planning to shut down the drive through window at the City Treasurer' s office was true. Mayor Crabtree <br />assured Mr. Draper that this service operation would not be eliminated, but may well be improved <br /> <br /> <br />
