Randolph Smith, Jr., <br />Commonwealth's Attorney, was not present for this meeting)'-- <br />1989-90 budget requests were tentatively approved by Council. <br /> <br />17. <br /> <br />Martinsville-Henry County Rescue Squad (Mr. John Potter, <br />Captain), whose budget request for 1989-90 is $836.00 less than <br />was contributed by the City for t~e current year, <br /> <br />18, <br /> <br />Piedmont Emergency Medical Services (Brian Wilson), whose 1989-90 <br />budget request is $458.00 less than was contributed by Council <br />for the current year -- tentatively approved. <br /> <br />1¸9. <br /> <br />Patrick Henry Community College (Dr. Max Wingett, President), <br />whose 1989-90 budget request of the City is $45.00 less than the <br />City's current year's contribution -- believed tentatively <br />approved. <br /> <br />VPI Extension Service (Harry M. Little, Martinsville-Henry County <br />Extension Service Agent), whose 1989-90 budget request of the <br />City is $450.00 more than was allowed for 1988-89 -- this request <br />was tentatively approved. <br /> <br />Local Emergency Planning Committee (Dr. Sherman S. Dutton, <br />Chairman), whose request for 1989-90 is the same as was <br />contributed by the City for the 1988-89 year, being $2,000.00 for <br />this mandated program -- tentatively approved. <br /> <br />20., Virginia Museum of Natural History (Dr. Michael Hager, Director), <br /> whose 1989-90 budget request of the City remains the same as was <br /> allowed for 1988-89, with Dr. Hager commenting on plans for the <br /> considerable expansion of this State agency, now staffed by <br /> eighteen persons but expected to be expanded to a staff of forty- <br /> 'two persons during the coming fiscal year -- request of Council <br /> was tentatively approved, with members of Council describing this <br /> Museum as a significant asset to the City. <br /> <br />1o <br /> <br />20 <br /> <br />Blue Ridge Regional (Public) Library (George W. Coleman, Jr., <br />Board Chairman), whose 1989-90 budget request of the City remains <br />the same ($246,559.00) as was appropriated by Council for the <br />current year and represents 38% of the Library's total budget -- <br />this request was tentatively approved. <br /> <br />Piedmont Arts Association (Tom Perryman, Executive Director), in <br />whose 1989-90 request no increase over the current year was <br />asked, Councilman McClain expressing personal support of the <br />Piedmont Arts Association but also expressing reservations, as he <br />did last year, on the matter of local governmental financial <br /> <br /> <br />
