TUESDAY, JANUARY 24, 1989 <br /> <br />Diversified, which firms are now constructing and developing Liberty Fair Mall <br />near the intersection of Liberty Street and Commonwealth Boulevard, seeking an <br />amendment to the City's Zoning Ordinance whereby required parking spaces per <br />1,000 square feet of gross building areas (in shopping centers with 300,000 <br />square feet, or more,.of gross building areas) would be reduced from the <br />presently-required 5.5 spaces to 5 spaces and, therefore, would permit <br />petitioners to construct a fourth "anchor" store building whereas, under <br />present restrictions, only three "anchor" stores can be constructed in the <br />complex. There being no objections to this petition and proposed amendment <br />registered by any citizen, Mayor Oakes declared this public hearing closed; <br />whereupon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council accepted the <br />Planning Commission's recommendation that the Zoning Ordinance be so amended <br />and, in so doing, adopted the following amending ordinance: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville Planning Commission and City Council <br />having held duly advertised public hearings on January 19 and 24, <br />1989, respectively; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Martinsville does hereby <br />consider the following amendment to the Martinsville Zoning <br />Ordinance. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular session assembled held on January 24, 1989, <br />that number 16 of Section IX. (Off-Street Parking and Loading <br />Space), B. (Specifications) is hereby amended by reducing the <br />requirement of 5.5 parking spaces to 5.0 parking spaces per 1,000 <br />square feet of gross building area for certain shopping centers as <br />follows: <br /> <br />16. <br /> <br />Shopping center containing three hundred thousand <br />(300,000) square feet or more of gross building area <br />shall provide off-street parking for five (5.0) vehicles <br />per one thousand (1,000) square feet of gross building <br />area. <br /> <br />Council unanimously approved a proposed right-of-way easement (as amended), for <br />execution by City Manager Brown, which will permit Multitrade Group, Inc., to <br /> <br /> <br />
