TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 1988 <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-published public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on~ <br />the Martinsville Bulletin's recent petition seeking the vacating and <br />abandonment of remaining unused-excess Brown Street-Market ~Street right-of- <br />ways, consisting of approximately 2,450 square feet and situated on the south <br />side of Market Street between Broad and College Streets. Representing the <br />petitioner was Mr. William F. Stone, Jr., Attorney at Law. There being no <br />objections registered by any person to the petition, Mayor Oakes declared this <br />public hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, <br />Council approved said petition, as recommended by the Martidsville Planning <br />Commission, and, in so doing, adopted the following ordinance'setting forth <br />certain conditions made a part of Council's action, with the amount to be paid <br />the City by Martinsville Bulletin for said right-of-way established at <br />$1,875.00, being--in keeping with City policy--one-half of the recently- <br />appraised value of said property: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twenty-nint~ day of November, <br />1988, that the remainder of unused-excess Brown Street-Market Street <br />right-of-ways, 'consisting of approximately 2,450 square feet, <br />situated on the south side of Market Street between Broad and <br />College Streets and between the south side of Market Street and Lots <br />Nos. 8, 9, and 11, as shown on SeCtion (Page) 32 of the Tax Map of <br />the City of Martinsville, be and is hereby declared vacated and <br />abandoned in favor of Martinsville Bulletin, subject to the filing <br />by said Martinsville Bulletin of appropriate map or maps with--and <br />the approval by--the City's Engineering Division and the City's <br />Public Works Director, showing the area hereby vacated and <br />abandoned, which map or maps, when and as approved, shall be duly <br />recorded in the office of the Clerk of Martinsville City Circuit <br />Court. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency existing, <br />this ordinance shall be in force on and after December 1, 1988. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-published public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on <br />a proposed amendment to the City's Land Use Plan & Map, as recommended by the <br />Martinsville Planning Commission, to reflect the recent abandonment of "old" <br /> <br /> <br />
