TUESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 1988 <br /> <br />The following is a summary of non-agenda items, representing comments, <br /> <br />announcements, inquiries, and/or requests from the following members of <br /> <br />Council: <br /> <br />MAYOR OAKES -- announced that a Report on Audit (just received <br />for the fiscal year ended 06/30/88) will be officially <br />presented, as will the City's Manager's Five-Year Financial <br />Plan, at Council's forthcoming regular meeting scheduled for <br />November 8, 1988; announced that a special meeting with the <br />City SchoolBoard will begin with dinner at the School Board <br />headquarters, 6:00 P.M., November 1, 1988; commended the Cityms <br />Fire Department for hosting the State Industrial Fire School <br />this past weekend; and extended best wishes to City Planner/ <br />Zoning Administrator Dennis W. Carney, who will soon leave the <br />City to become County Planner for King William County, <br />Virginia. <br /> <br />B~ <br /> <br />VICE-MAYOR WILLIAMS -- commenting on the approaching winter <br />season, inquired as to what is being done with or for the <br />City's homeless people and asked that the City Administration <br />report back to Council thereon; meanwhile, Councilman McClain <br />reported that the heat-energy assistance program will soon be <br />in place. <br /> <br />COUNCILMAN COLE -- was informed that a proposed resolution <br />recognizing the Piedmont Youth Soccer League will be presented <br />for Council's considerationand/or action at Council's forth- <br />coming November 8th meeting; reported on likely changes in the <br />"Freedom of Information Act", on which Mayor Oakes has received <br />a "position inquiry", with Councilman McClain expressing <br />support for providing access to" ..... what's done formally" but <br />expressing opposition to a proposal that Executive Sessions be <br />taped and/or certified; recommended that the Manager's <br />Quarterly Activities Report, if not already made available to <br />the Press, be made available; and asked that the Public Works <br />Department repair five potholes along Morningside Lane. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL -- acknowledged an invitation extended by Mrs. <br />Rebecca C. Miller, Housing Services Director, to attend a <br />ground-breaking ceremony at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, October 30, <br />1988, on Royal Drive, for a new home (project) being sponsored <br />by the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity (Mr. Bill A. <br />Adkins, Chapter President). <br /> <br />Mayor Oakes then declared this meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />W , C of Council <br /> <br /> <br />
