TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 1988

Memorial Boulevard, Fayette Street, and West Church Street, and that the
project appears to be proceeding according to schedule, with bid proposals to
be invited (by public advertisements and otherwise) during the forthcoming

month of October.

City Manager Brown informed Council that, as now proposed, new and more
restrictive regulations governing solid waste disposal are scheduled to become
effective in January of 1989, although he will attempt to obtain a postponement
until the beginning of the City's next fiscal year (in order that
municipalities can budget for additional costs associated with such
regulations). Hopkins, who retired on August 31, 1988, from
the position of Assistant Director of Public Works to several present City
employees (rather than seek a single replacement), resulting in a savings for
the current fiscal year of $37,212.00, with an annualized savings of
$44,650.00, including fringe benefits cost at a rate of 31% of salaries.
Accordingly, Mr. Brown has promoted Mr. Joel Baker, Building Official, to the
