TUESDAY, JUNE 14, 1988

Pursuant to duly-published notice and to applicable statutory requirements,
Council conducted a public hearing on Mrs. Evelyn H. Stone's petition seeking
the closing and abandonment of a ten-foot-wide alleyway extending from Moss
Street for a distance of 125 feet between lots fronting West Main Street and
Fayette Street (i.e., to the eastern edge of Lots Nos. 38 and 74 between West
Main Street and Fayette Street), abutting which alleyway the petitioner owns
all properties except that (consisting of a small corner lot facing Moss
Street) owned by Messrs. Thomas U. and Richard O. Stockton and occupied by a
barber shop. This petition was forwarded to Council (for its May 24th meeting)
by the Planning Commission with the recommendation that Council approve the
petition, subject to (1) an agreement being reached by petitioner with the
Stocktons by which full access to the area beside the barber shop will be
continued and (2) the abandonment of an electric utility easement along the
alleyway. Representing petitioner before Council was Mr. William F. Stone,
Jr., Attorney at Law, who apprised Council of the status of the recommended
agreement, now in. process of being negotiated. Upon motion, duly seconded, and
unanimously carried, Council indicated that it would take final action on this
petition (which it generally approved) at a meeting following the completion of
the required satisfactory agreement with the Stocktons. The record notes that
no opposition to the petition was registered during the foregoing public
hearing.

Council called for a duly-advertised public hearing to be 'conducted by Council
at its regular meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 28, 1988, on a petition
filed by Mr. & Mrs. Shelton H.
