TUESDAY, JUNE'14, 1988 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor L. D. Oakes presiding, was held Tuesday, June 14, 1988, in <br />the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30P.M. With the exception of <br />Councilman Alfred T. Groden (who was away from the City), all members were <br />present, viz., L. D. Oakes, Mayor; Clyde L. Williams, Vice-Mayor; William C. <br />Cole, Jr.: and Allan McClain. <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor Oakes' cordial welcome extended to visitors <br />present, Council unanimously approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular <br />meeting held May 24, 1988. <br /> <br />Mr. Tim Cahill, Manager of the Martinsville Phillies professional baseball <br />team, appeared before Council and presented "Official Phillies <br />to members of Council as tokens of appreciation of the City's efforts and <br />assistance toward bringing professional baseball to Martinsville, particularly <br />by providing attractive facilities for the upcoming baseball season, for which <br />"Fan Appreciation" night will be June 17th and the first "home" game has been <br />scheduled for June 25th. <br /> <br />Mr. C. David McMillan, III, of 905 Mulberry Road, appeared before Council and <br />offered himself as a candidate for membership on the City's Planning <br />Commission. Meanwhile, Council continued to an Executive Session at the <br />conclusion of this regular meeting consideration of nominees for appointment <br />and/or reappointment to various boards and commission, including the Planning <br />Commission and the City School Board, generally for terms beginning July 1, <br />1988. <br /> <br /> <br />
