TUESDAY, MAY 24, 1988

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that the tax rate for said fiscal year
shall be, for each one hundred dollars of assessed valuation, as follows:

Real Estate
Personal Property
Machinery and Tools

$0.76
$2.25
$1.85

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that an emergency existing, this
ordinance shall be in force on and after July 1, 1988.

As a result of a duly-advertised public hearing conducted by Council at this

meeting, the following citizens, either in person or by letter and resume,

expressed their desire to be appointed (or reappointed) to membership on the

City School Board for three-year terms beginning July 1, 1988:

1. Worth H. Carter, Jr., incumbent;
2. William W. Edwards, Jr., incumbent;
3. Mark A. Crabtree, D.D.S.; and
4. John H. Walrod, D.D.S.

Council continued consideration of these nominees to its forthcoming June 14th

regular meeting.

In acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation, Council unanimously
authorized City Manager Brown to execute, on behalf of the City, a proposed
contract/agreement with Martinsville Super 8 Motel, Inc., under which the City
will provide water and sewer service to a new motel facility (being constructed
by Martinsville Super 8 Motel, Inc.) situated on the north side of U. S. Route
220 beyond the City's northwest corporate limits (North Memorial Boulevard),
which contract or agreement must include covenants reflecting the City's land-use
requirements as well as all other requirements applicable to the City's C-3
Commercial District zoning regulations. In so doing, Council was apprised of the
fact that this location is within the area (abutting the corporate limits)
designated for water service by the City under the City/County Water Service
Agreement, whereas there is some difference between the Henry County PSA and the
City in the interpretation of an agreement under which sewer service shall be
