TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 1988 <br /> <br />In recognition and appreciation of his support of the City's Police Department <br />and his contributions to the cause of local law enforcement, especially through <br />the Police Department's Crimestoppers program, Mr. Daniel ("Danny") A. Turner, a <br />civilian and Security Officer for Piedmont Trust Bank, was awarded a plaque <br />designating him as the Police Department's Outstanding Citizen of the Year for <br />1987. <br /> <br />Council unanimously recommended that the West Piedmont Planning District <br />Commission "make a favorable comment", as a part of its "Clearinghouse <br />Procedure", on Patrick Henry Mental Health Center's application for a Federal <br />grant of $13,920.00, with the Center's local funding of $3,480.00, to purchase a <br />15-passenger van to be used in transporting mentally-ill clients to and from day <br />support services and to keep appropriate appointments deemed necessary. <br /> <br />Mrs. Nancy N. Henderson, Chairman of the Martinsville-Henry County Clean <br />Community Commission, appeared before council with a plaque recently given the <br />Commission, as the Governor's Award and a Five-Year Award of Excellence, in <br />recognition of the Commission's outstanding efforts and achievements in its <br />clean community activities. Mrs. Henderson informed Council that only three <br />cities were given a Five-Year Award during'recent presentation ceremonies in <br />Richmond, the three being Richmond, Virginia, Newport News, Virginia, and <br />Martinsville, Virginia. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation by City Manager Brown, and supported by City Sheriff Maynard <br />H. Gilley, Council unanimously authorized Mr. Brown to solicit proposals from <br />responsible consulting firms (who are knowledgeable and have expertise in the <br /> <br /> <br />
