454 <br /> <br />FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 1990 <br /> <br />Economic Development District to assist member localities <br />in obtaining funds to address their economic needs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, as part of the designation process, local <br /> governments within the proposed Economics Development <br /> District must formally endorse the district designation; <br /> now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE lIT RESOLVED that the Council 'of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session assembled <br />September 14, 1990, hereby recognizes the benefits of <br />Economic Development District designation for the West <br />Piedmont Planning District and !supports the Planning <br />District Commission's economic development program; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED thata copy of this resolution be <br />submitted to the United States Department of Commerce, <br />Economic Development Administration, in support of the <br />West Piedmont Planning District Commission's request for <br />formal Economic Development District designation. <br /> <br />Council considered a request by M & M, Inco~ to modify their <br /> <br />Special Use Permit issued for the construction of Rivermont <br /> <br />Apartments located northeast of Fayette Street in order to <br /> <br />construct an addition to the building which houses the apartment <br /> <br />complex's office and laundry facilities. Mr. Brown explained that <br /> <br />the addition would be used as an Out-Reach Resource Center for the <br /> <br />apartment complex and that the Drug Task Force and City <br /> <br />Administration had been working with the complex management to <br />provide space for the proposed Resource Center° In response to a <br /> <br />question by Vice-Mayor Groden, Mr. Warren Jackson, of M & M, Inc., <br /> <br />stated that the residents of Rivermont are not opposed to the <br /> <br />creation of. the Center, even with the attendant influx of <br /> <br />individuals from outside of the Complex who would utilize it. Upon <br /> <br />motion, duly seconded, and by unanimous vote, Council approved the <br /> <br />..-modification of the Special Use Permit. <br /> <br /> <br />
