Councilman "Oakes requested <br />that the elimination of the Barrows Mill Road sidewalk project be <br />delayed for a period of one month so that he 'can meet with the <br />property owners in order to see if they will agree to the necessary <br />donation of additional right-of-way. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged a status report on usage of the dropsoff =site~'I~'~ <br /> <br />for recyclables in which the City Manager reported that 35.59 tons <br /> <br />or 0.7%.=of~the total waste stream was brought to the Kroger drop- <br /> <br />off site over a one and one-half month period. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged a report on efforts to control drunken driving <br />in the City in which the City Manager reported that in 1989 there <br />were 136. arrests and from January 1990 through September 5, 1990, <br />12'5' arrests have been made for this offense. Mayor McClain <br />expressed the concern that the increased'enforcement efforts with <br />respect to drunken driving were having an effect on "social <br />drinkers" but that they may not be having an impact on heavier <br />users oflalcohol. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded, and by unanimous vote, Council approved <br />an application to the State Department of Motor Vehicles for a <br />mini-grant ($500) for promoting and purchasing an owl cartoon as a <br />loCal=trafficsafety symbol. <br /> <br />Councilacknowledged astatus report regarding the preliminary1990 <br /> <br /> <br />
