TUESDAY. AUGUST 28. 1990 <br /> <br />American Revolution begins its Centennial Year marking a <br />century of service to the Nation; and := -; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Patrick Henry and General Joseph Martin <br />Chapters are members of said organization; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Society is truly a service organization <br />pioneering in the field of preservation, environmental <br />issues, establishing schools in Appalachia, organizing <br />occupational therapy service for immigrants on Ellis <br />Island, recruiting over a thousand nurses for hospital <br />service during the Spanish American War, these nurses <br />becoming the nucleus of the Army Nurse Corps; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Society has worked zealously promoting GOod <br />Citizenship through distribution of Manuals. for <br />Citizenship, presenting medals honoring youth in our <br />schools, awarding ROTC medals to outstanding cadets, <br />furnishing financial and scholarship aid to American <br />Indians; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the National Society of the Daughters of-the <br />American Revolution has been actively involved in <br />historic preservation, and through the efforts of its <br />members has restored and preserved historic .sites, and <br />commemoration of historical events in American history <br />have been observed such -as the Bicentennial of the <br />Independence of the United States and the Bicentennial of <br />the Constitution and initiated the observance of American <br />History Month and Constitution Week; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Patrick Henry Chapter and the General Joseph <br />Martin Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters <br />of theAmerican Revolution have been actively engaged in <br />all these services and observances; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session..assembled <br />August 28, 1990, that said Council does hereby offer its <br />congratulations to the Patrick Henry and General Joseph <br />Martin Chapters of the National Society of the Daughters <br />of the American Revolution and expresses its appreciation <br />to the said DAR Chapters for their contributions to our <br />community and our Nation <br /> <br />Council considered verification of conformity with all ordinances <br /> <br />of the City for the construction of a proposed new waste <br /> <br />incinerator for Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. <br /> <br /> <br />
