398 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, JUNE 26, 1990 <br /> <br />at the landfill. In response to a question by Councilman.McClain, <br />Mr. Brown reported that the change in the tipping fees would not <br />result in a. large amount of additional revenues. <br /> <br />Council heard a presentation by David E. Roberts of Virginia CARES <br />(,Virginia_ Community Action ReEntry System, Inc.) regarding the <br /> <br />services provided by Virginia CARES and the need for emergency <br /> <br />shelter to serve parolees in Martinsville. In response to a <br /> <br />question by Councilman Groden, Mr. Roberts stated that local <br />parolees were not necessarily originally from Martinsville. Also <br />inresponse to a question by Councilman Groden, Mr. Roberts said <br />that he had not approached Henry County for funding. Councilman <br /> <br />Cole, referring to a letter given to Council by Mr. Roberts, asked <br /> <br />..if the current system of housing parolees in the Martinsville Hotel <br /> <br />was working. <br /> <br />Mr. Roberts said that, although it was working to an <br /> <br />extent, the fees charged by the Hotel cause some financial problems <br /> <br />for local agencies. <br /> <br />Mayor Oakes stated that he felt the State <br /> <br />should provide more funding toaddress this problem. Councilman <br /> <br />McClain.said that Mr. Robertswas asking-the City to assume a <br /> <br />,,f~nancial burden which is currently being funded by the State. <br /> <br />Upon. motion,=duly seconded, and by unanimous vote, Council. moved <br />~o~table Mr., Roberts'. request. Councilman McClain suggested that <br />Mr. Roberts should further study the issue and perhaps approach <br /> <br />Council with a proposal at a later time. <br /> <br />Council heard a request from the City Manager to consider a <br /> <br /> <br />
