TUESDAY,-JUNE t2, 1990 <br />Cities regarding an invitation to visit Martinsville, 'M~. Thomas <br />stated in his letter that he could not accept the invitation due <br />to his policy of not accepting subsidized trips from any of the <br />cities which were reviewed in his book. <br /> <br />Council approved the minutes of the regular meeting of May 22, 1990 <br /> <br />as written. <br /> <br /> Under- business from the floor, Mr. Bill Heath'of Crestar Bank <br /> appeared and=stated that he took issue with Martinsville's rating <br /> as it appeared in the Ratinq Guide and announced the beginning of <br /> a promotional campaign in which the slogan wiI1 be "We have it all, <br /> in Martinsville.,, Ms. Linda Powell, also of Crestar, presented the <br /> Councilwith t-shirts, buttons, and bumper stickers which bore the <br /> slogan.. <br /> <br />Council conducted a public hearing to consider appointees for the <br />two upcoming term expirations on the City's School Board. City <br />Manager Brown noted that he had received letters of interest from <br />the two incumbents, Johnnie Jones and Roger Martin, but had <br />received no.other letters. Mr. Johnnie Jones appeared and stated <br />that he.was interested in following many ongoing School Board <br />projects to a conclusion, such as the evaluation' of the new <br />Superintendent and the reevaluation and upgrading of the <br />curriculum, especially at the high school level. Councilman Cole <br />commended<both-incumbents for their service 'to the City. <br /> <br /> <br />
