Both Chief of Police Terry Roop and Fire <br /> Chief W. Lewis Reeves expressed support of the City's inclusion in <br /> the program. Mayor Oakes praised the Police and Fire Departments <br /> for their professionalism and for their contributions to the <br /> <br /> community. : ; <br /> <br /> Upon motion, duly seconded, and upon unanimous <br /> adopted the following resolution supporting the <br /> <br />'Retirement Community: · <br /> <br />vote, Council <br />King's Grant <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a group of concerned citizens recognized aneed <br />for establishing! a: retirement community in the <br />Martinsville-Henry County area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these dedicated volunteers have selecteda site <br />in Henry County and have already raised over Fiv~ Million <br />Dollars toward construction of the project that will be <br />known as King's Grant;.and :-: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the King~s'~Grant Retirement Community will <br />greatly enhance our community's ability to provide for <br />our senior citizens;.and: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, when operational, this facility will employ over <br />150 people and have a.majorimpact on the economy of our <br />area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a public campaign;has been launched toraise Two <br />Million Dollars for building a central community center <br />and establishing an .endowment to help those seniors who <br />may face financial problems;now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br /> <br /> <br />
