334 <br /> <br />"~i~'~'.~~?~- ~.TUESDAY., APRIL '24 ,. 1990 <br /> <br /> ' After the Martinsville CityBudget'==was distributed, I <br /> wrote the County Administrator a letter on April 5, <br /> suggesting that the Countycontribute $12,513 to~the Task <br /> Force. This would make them an:equal partner. <br /> <br /> As of tonight, the County is asking the City for a formal <br /> invitation to join theTask=Force. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded, and by unanimous vote, Council adopted <br />the following resolution inviting the Henry County Board of <br />Supervisors to consider becoming a partner with Martinsville in <br /> <br />fighting~'the drug problem: = = <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in September 1988, the City Council of the City <br /> of Martinsville first expressed its concern over the <br /> ever-increasing problem of illegal drugs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in October 1988,~the City Council .appointed a <br /> 7~,~ 12 member Committee to study the problem further; and <br /> <br /> '.=WHEREAS, in June 1989, the Study Committee reported that <br /> "Martinsville has a significant drug problem which <br /> ' "and <br /> ,affects all citizens, = <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in September 1989, City Council initiated a <br /> '!~'~"' permanent committee known as the Blue Ribbon'Dr~g Study <br /> · Committee--now known asthe Drug Task Force of <br /> ~'~'~' =~Martinsville; and' ':'. .... ~' ; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it has become apparent that most of the <br /> resources which' must be used to wage an'effective war <br />.:,-~:'against drugs serve both Martinsville and Henry County; <br /> and ! ' :'; -- ,'. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Sheriff's Department and the City. Police <br />Department are ·already working closely together on the <br />problem; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia,=in regular session assembled <br />April 24, 1990, that said Council invites the Henry <br />County Board of Supervisors to·consider becoming an equal <br />partner in the formation'ofa corporation, whose sole <br />purpose is to eliminate theillegal drug'=p~bblem in <br />Martinsville and Henry County; and, <br /> <br /> <br />
