TUESDAY, MARCH 27, 1990 <br /> <br />Council heard a presentation from Mr. Erwin Katz who stated that Channel 7 had <br />conducted a survey of rescue services in Roanoke and in Martinsville-Henry <br />County which indicated that Roanoke had five times the number of paramedics as <br />does Martinsville-Henry County. The Mayor noted that Council and the Henry <br />County Board of Supervisors have authorized a study of rescue services to be <br />conducted and invited Mr. Katz to send him a letter documenting this survey. <br /> <br />~Pursuant to duly-published public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on <br /> the Planning Commission's recent recommendation that Section X,. Signs, Para- <br /> graph D.3.a~ "C-1 District", of the City's Zoning Ordinance be amended to allow <br /> shoppingcenterswithin the C-1 Commercial District to have a ground sign dis- <br /> playing the name of the center m~d the names of businesses within the center. <br /> There being no objections registered by any person to the proposed amendment, <br /> <br />Mayor Oakes declared this public hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly <br />seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted on second reading Ordinance <br /> <br />No. 90-6 amending the City's Zoning Ordinance as follows: <br /> <br />BE IT 0RDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular session assembled March 27, 1990, that it does hereby amend <br />the,City's Zoning Ordinance, Section X, Signs, Paragraph D., Signs <br />Permitted in Districts, Sub-section 3. C-1 District, Sub-paragraph a., <br />as follows: <br /> <br />D. Signs Permitted in Districts <br /> <br />3. C-1 District <br /> <br />,a. For each shopping center, one (1) ground sign having a <br /> maximum area of one hundred (100) square Feet, maximum <br /> overall height of thirty (30) Feet, minimum distance From <br /> street line of ten (10) feet, and indicating the name of <br /> the shopping center.. In addition to the shopping center <br /> name, the one sign may designate a business use or combi- <br /> nation of business uses within the center. <br /> <br /> <br />
