TUESDAY, MARCH 27, 1990 Council heard a presentation from Mr. Erwin Katz who stated that Channel 7 had conducted a survey of rescue services in Roanoke and in Martinsville-Henry County which indicated that Roanoke had five times the number of paramedics as does Martinsville-Henry County. The Mayor noted that Council and the Henry County Board of Supervisors have authorized a study of rescue services to be conducted and invited Mr. Katz to send him a letter documenting this survey. ~Pursuant to duly-published public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on the Planning Commission's recent recommendation that Section X,. Signs, Para- graph D.3.a~ "C-1 District", of the City's Zoning Ordinance be amended to allow shoppingcenterswithin the C-1 Commercial District to have a ground sign dis- playing the name of the center m~d the names of businesses within the center. There being no objections registered by any person to the proposed amendment, Mayor Oakes declared this public hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted on second reading Ordinance No. 90-6 amending the City's Zoning Ordinance as follows: BE IT 0RDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session assembled March 27, 1990, that it does hereby amend the,City's Zoning Ordinance, Section X, Signs, Paragraph D., Signs Permitted in Districts, Sub-section 3. C-1 District, Sub-paragraph a., as follows: D. Signs Permitted in Districts 3. C-1 District ,a. For each shopping center, one (1) ground sign having a maximum area of one hundred (100) square Feet, maximum overall height of thirty (30) Feet, minimum distance From street line of ten (10) feet, and indicating the name of the shopping center.. In addition to the shopping center name, the one sign may designate a business use or combi- nation of business uses within the center.
