290 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, MARCH 27, 199o <br /> <br /> Upon motion, duly seconded and by'unanimous vote, Council' scheduled 'apublic <br /> hearing for April 10, 1990 on a request by Piedmont Trust Bank and R.M. <br /> <br />Simmons, Jr., Co'Trustees for the R.M. Simmons, St., Estate, to fezOne a <br />=portion of Lots 33 and 34 (recently resubdivided to create Lot 33-R) located on <br /> <br /> the south side of Starling'Avenue, from R-6 Residential to P-2 Professional. <br /> <br /> Council made the following presentations: (1) a retirement stipend to Sam J. <br />Harris, Building Maintenance Supervisor, Public Works Department for 14 years <br />'service (Mr. Harris was not present); (2) an employee suggestion award to Frank <br />'Tu'ggle, Billy Payne and Bob Huston of the Public Works Department:for their <br />· suggestion to utilize the street sweeper for purposes of weed and. grass control <br />'along City streets. The Mayor expressed his appreciation on behalf of Council <br /> <br /> For this Suggestion. ' <br /> <br /> Council approved the minutes of its March 6 and March 13, 1990 meetings as <br /> published. <br /> <br />Under Business from the floor, Mrs. Marion Preston inquired about the construc- <br />tion of a turnaround at the end of Kings Row. The Mayor explained that the <br />matter had been discussed at the previous meeting and referred the matter to <br />City Manager Brown. Mr. Brown explained that, if the' residents of the area <br />wanted'a turnaround constructed, it would be scheduled in sometime during the <br />summer. Mr. Brown also noted 'that the construction of a turnaround has some <br />potential negative effects in that the street would have to be extended some- <br />what and that this would subject the area to increased parking and litter <br />problems. Mrs. Preston and one other citizen present indicated that they were <br />still in favor of the project. <br /> <br /> <br />
