TUESDAY, MARCH 13, 1990 <br /> <br />Council acknowledged a report'by the City Manager on the status of proposed <br />Ordinance No. 90-4 related to parking in the downtown area. ~ City Manager Brown <br />noted that a report m~d recommendation would be forthcoming..from the Commercial <br />Development Commission and the Downtown Business Association after :their <br />review. ~ <br /> <br /> Upon motion, duly seconded m~dunanimous vote, Council accepted a recommenda- <br /> tion by the City Manager as a result of a request by theCity's Drug Study Com- <br /> mittee for the provision of additional bed space for prisoners by authorizing <br /> <br />the City Manager to explore the proposed plan of adding 18 beds to the City <br />'l!Jail and possible funding by the State of 50% of the cost. The Committee had <br /> <br /> suggested an expansion of the City's Prison Farm, but the City Manager pointed <br /> out that~this facility does not· meet State standards now, therefore, the State <br /> would discourage any further expansion. City Manager Brownssuggested that the <br /> City Jail be converted to a bunk-bed type facility, thereby providing 18 more <br /> beds.' These beds could be. considered a part of the structure resulting in the <br /> possibility of 50% funding by the State to provide the beds and some additional <br /> improvements necessary to comply with State standards. City Manager Brown is <br /> to report back to Council at the next meeting as to the costs related to this <br /> project and amount of State funding available. Councilman Cole asked that the <br /> Sheriff provide a monthly report of minimum and maximum number of inmates at <br /> the Jail. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimous vote, Council authorized the City <br />Manager to meet with the residents of Kings Row to determine if they want a <br />cul-de-sac constructed at the end of the street, if so the City should proceed <br />with it. City Manager Brown noted that a condition to the closing of a section <br /> <br /> <br />
