234 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, JANUARY 9, 1'990 <br /> <br />her property, it was concluded that approval of the rezoning request was <br />ju'stified. By motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted <br />the following ordinance which amends the City's ZoningMap'to reflect this <br />rezoning. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> in regular session assembled this twenty-third day of January, 1990, <br /> that the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, be--and is <br /> hereby--amended to the extent that Lot 5 situated on the west side of <br /> First Street is hereby rezoned from M-1 Industrial to R-6 Residential. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency existing, <br /> this ordinance shall be in force on and after January 24, 1990. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-published public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on <br />a recommendation by the Planning Commission to amend the City's Comprehensive <br />Plan in order to assign street names to the old and new portions of Spruce <br />Street, which project has recently been completed. It was noted that the <br />Planning Commission had recommended (1) assign the name "Spruce Street" from <br />Rives Road to a point south of Hunting Ridge Road (including the "new" section, <br />and (2) assign the name "Old Spruce Street" to the original section of Spruce <br />Street which extends from a point south of Grattan Road to a dead-end south of <br />Corn Tassel Trail. The City Administration agreed with recommendation (1), but <br />suggested that "Spruce Street Extension" be used for the original section of <br />Spruce Street as described in (2) above. Mrs. Christine Bennett, 1605 Spruce <br />Street, stated that she preferred "Spruce Extension" rather than "Old Spruce <br /> <br /> et" <br />Stre . There being no further comments, Vice-Mayor Williams declared this <br /> <br />public hearing closed. Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, <br />Council approved the naming of these sections of streets as follows: <br /> <br /> <br />
