TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 1989

Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council approved--as
recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting held August 22, 1989.

Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing
on the Planning Commission's recent recommendation that two un-named streets,
beginning at Hensley Alley and extending in a southwesterly direction along the
rear of three lots fronting the northwest side of Commonwealth Boulevard and,
thence, in a northeasterly direction along the rear of four lots fronting the
east side of Fairy Street, be named Tank Street and Kent Street. There being
no objections registered by any citizen, Mayor Oakes declared this public
hearing closed. In an ensuing discussion, Vice-Mayor Williams suggested that
citizens residing in the neighborhoods of streets yet to be named be invited to
submit names for such streets, whereas Councilman Cole inquired as to the
City's current policy of no longer naming streets after citizens. Then, upon
motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council directed that, in the
future when un-named streets are to be named, citizens be invited to file
suggested names with the Planning Commission. Also, upon motion, duly seconded
and unanimously carried, Council accepted the Planning Commission's
recommendation as hereinbefore cited; thus, these un-named streets were duly
named Tank Street and Kent Street.

Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing
on Yellow Cab Company's recent petition seeking increases in the mileage rates
and waiting'time rates for local taxicab fares. Mr. James B. Bannister, owner-
operator (along with his brother LeRoy Bannister) of Bannister Cab Company,

appeared before Council and stated that he" .... is pleased" with the present

rates. There being no other citizens desiring to comment on this petition,
