TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 1989 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor L. D. Oakes presiding, was held. Tuesday, September i2, <br />1989, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. With the <br />exception of Councilman Alfred T. Groden, all members of Council were present <br />aS follows: L. D. Oakes, Mayor, Clyde L. Williams, Vice-Mayor; William C. <br />Cole, Jr.; and Allan McClain. <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor Oakes' cordial welcome extended to visitors <br /> <br />present, Council unanimously adopted the following resolution in recognition <br /> <br />and commendation of the Martinsville-ttenry County Rescue Squad for having <br /> <br />recently b~n acclaimed 'World Champions" in Emergency Medical Technician <br /> <br />competition: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, representatives of the Martinsville-Henry County Rescue <br />Squad were selected on the basis of outstanding performance in <br />competition among their peers to represent the Virginia Association <br />of Volunteer Rescue Squads in international competition; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville-Henry County Rescue Squad members competed <br />at the 42nd Annual Conference of the International Rescue and <br />Emergency Care Association held August 13-19, 1989, in Charleston, <br />South Carolina; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville-ttenry County Rescue Squad earned the title <br />of 'World Champions" in the Emergency Medical Technician competition <br />by successfully solving simulated life-and-death situations testing <br />their medical skills, knowledge, and ingenuity; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville-Henry County Rescue Squad also placed <br />second in the international competition in the Emergency Care <br />competition; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the outstanding accomplishments of the Martinsville-Henry <br />County Rescue Squad have brought honor not only to themselves but <br />also to their community as a whole; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular session assembled September 12, 1989, that it does hereby <br />extend its sincere congratulations to the Martinsville-Henry County <br />Rescue Squad and to the members who competed--John Potter, Susan <br />Potter, Jim Peverall, Jr., Benny Summerlin, and John Phillips--for <br />their outstanding achievements in the field of emergency medical <br />services. <br /> <br /> <br />
