Council indicated that the City"s share (of $500.00) will be <br />made available if the .application is approved. <br /> <br />Su,bject to some re--wording, as suggested by Councilman McClain, of an <br />application proposed to be filed by the City's Police Department With the <br />Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, Council unanimously <br />authorized the filing of said application seeking a grant of $89,597.00 which, <br />with the City's local cash match of $7,791.00 (which City Manager Brown <br />indicated will not require any appropriation from Council), will be used to <br />purchase andinstall voice-secure radio equipment for the Police Department. <br /> <br />Council heartily congratulated the Martinsville Transportation Safety <br />Commission (represented at this meeting by Mr. Franklin L. Frazier, Chairman, <br />and Mr. Martin Kravitz, member, accompanied by Mr. Steven D. Goodwin, State <br />Transportation Safety Division Supervisor) for having recently received an <br />Achievement Award for its outstanding local safety program. <br /> <br />Council unanimously designated Mayor L. D. Oakes as Voting Delegate, and <br />Vice-Mayor Williams as Alternate Voting Delegate, as representatives of the <br />City of Martinsville at the forthcoming 1989 Conference of the Virginia <br />Municipal League to be held October 15th-to October 17th in Fairfax County, <br />Virginia. <br /> <br />Council received for study a proposed policy on the use of drugs and alcohol by <br />City employees and (by) applicants for City employment, as recommended by City <br />Manager Brown. <br /> <br /> <br />
