Harold Lamm, Council <br />amended'the City School Board's 1989-90 budget (as well as the City's General <br />Fund budget) to reflect the following additions thereto in the form of <br />appropriations and estimated expenditures, offset by like amounts of revenue as <br />grants from the Commonwealth of Virginia: <br /> <br /> Dropout Prevention Program ......... $ 50,288.00 <br /> Special Education Inservice Program .... 6,454.00 <br /> Vocational Internship Program ....... 3,352.00 <br /> <br /> $ 60,094.00 <br /> <br />Pursuant to a request filed by Mr. L. E. '~ike" Lester, President of Piedmont <br />Construction of Virginia, Council unanimously adopted a resolution in support <br />of Mr. Lester's application for funds from the Virginia Housing Development <br />Authority to finance housing units proposed to be built by Mr. Lester and his <br />firm along Stephens Street for sale to low-and-moderate income persons at a <br />loan interest rate of five (5%) percent. Mr. Lester indicated that the first <br />phase of the project will consist of eighteen housing units, whereas City <br />Manager Brown estimated the City's cost for street-and-utility facilities, to <br />be provided by the City under the City's subdivision ordinance requirements, at <br />$51,000.00.
