TUESDAY, JUNE 27, 1989 <br /> <br />the need to involve the entire community in all aspects of confronting and <br />solving the drug problems in the community, beginning with public input in the <br />selection of a permanent "Blue Ribbon" committee. After discussing the <br />Manager's response/report., with which Council concurred, and after acknow- <br />ledging with appreciation Councilman Cole's expressed willingness to serve on <br />the permanent committee, if appointed, Council indicated that it might be in a <br />position to appoint the committee within the next two months. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of the findings of a survey--recently requested by <br />Council--of various Virginia cities as to their Erosion-and-Sediment Control <br />ordinances, followed by inquiries by Councilman Cole as to the City's require- <br />ments as well as to specific instances in which the City's regulations might <br />come into play and/or how the city's regulations are administered. Responding <br />to'some of Mr. Cole's inquiries, along with City Manager Brown, was Mr. Joel <br />Baker, Building Official/Assistant Director of Public Works. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of the following Staff reports: <br /> <br />A financial report, prepared by the Director of Finance, for <br />the period ended May 31, 1989; <br /> <br />A letter of appreciation from the local chapter of the <br />American Red Cross for the recent sponsorship by the City, <br />through its Fire Department personnel, of a Red Cross <br />"Bloodmobile"; <br /> <br />Letters from Mr. Joel M. Amos, Resident Engineer for the <br />Virginia Department of Transportation, in which the City was <br />informed that no changes have occurred to justify construct- <br />ing of another connection between "old" Spruce Street and <br />"new" or relOcated Spruce Street, and too, that the <br />"additional" entrance near the Avalon Apartments will not be <br />built (Note: Council asked that City Manager Brown inform <br />Mr. James S..Bowling, by letter, of these findings and/or <br />description); <br /> <br />Provisions, with "questions and answers", of the Virginia <br />Freedom of Information Act, as amended to July 1, 1989; and <br /> <br /> <br />
