TUESDAY, MAY 9, 1989 <br /> <br />ADDENDLM <br /> <br />CITY OF MARTINSVILLE, VIRGINIA <br /> STATEMENT OF POLICY <br />Extension of Water/Sewer Lines <br />Into Privately-Owned Property <br /> <br />PURPOSE: <br /> <br />This statement describes and establishes policy governing the conditions under <br />which water and sewer service will be provided in the City for new Unified <br />Housing Developments in residential zones as set forth in Section VIII-C-la of <br />the City's Zoning Ordinance. This policy is designed to promote construction <br />of new housing in the City, with the intent being that cost-savings to <br />Developers will be passed on to the Buyer or Renter, thereby increasing <br />affordability of such housing. <br /> <br />POLICY: <br /> <br />Water and Sewer lines will be extended into privately-owned property to serve <br />newly constructed townhouses or condominiums for sale or apartment complexes <br />for rental purposes as described in Section VIII-C-la of the City's Zoning <br />Ordinance, subject to the following conditions and responsibility designations: <br /> <br />The City shall, at its expense, install water mains, <br />including necessary valves, fire hydrants, and fittings and <br />sewer collector lines, including necessary manholes on <br />privately-owned property within proposed road spaces or as <br />otherwise shown on the approved plans to serve the proposed <br />development, except that: <br /> <br />The City's obligation shall be limited to 40' of <br />water main for each housing unit proposed. <br />Extensions on privately-owned property exceeding <br />40'/unit will be the responsibility of the <br />Developer. <br /> <br />The City's obligation shall be limited to 50' of <br />sewer collector line and 10' of trunk line <br />connecting the collector with existing outfalls for <br />each housing unit proposed. Extensions on <br />privately-owned property exceeding 50'/unit and <br />10'/unit respectively will be the responsibility of <br />the Developer. <br /> <br />This policy~is intended to apply to housing <br />projects situated adjacent to public streets in <br />which water and sewer lines are situated and are <br />within 50' of the property line of the proposed <br />housing project or where water and sewer lines are <br />otherwise within 50' of the' proposed development <br /> <br /> <br />
