TUESDAY, MAY 9, 1989 <br /> <br />administrative staff of the City School.· System, for appointment by the WPPDC to <br /> <br />an·at-large membership, representing the City, on said Technical Advisory <br />Committee for an unexpired term ending December 31, 1991. <br /> <br />Mayor Oakes announced that Mrs. Catherine Stone, a member of the City School <br />Board, has requested in writing that she not be considered for reappointment to <br />the School Board for a new term beginning July 1, 1989. Accordingly, the Mayor <br />and other members of Council asked that any eligible person desiring to serve <br />the City as a member of the School Board file his or her resume with City <br />Manager Brown on or before Friday, June 2, 1989. Subsequently, the Council <br />will conduct a duly,advertised. public hearing, as required by Section 22.1-29.1 <br />of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), for the purpose of receiving <br />views of citizens within the school division confines regarding the appointing <br />by Council of Mrs. Stone's successor. <br /> <br />By letter, Mrs. Alma Stultz, Chairperson of the Martinsville-Henry County March <br />of Dimes, acknowledged with appreciation the assistance provided by the City's <br />Police Department and Public Works Department during the recent WalkAmerica <br />fund-raising project sponsored by the March of Dimes. <br /> <br />Vice-Mayor Willtams, a member of the Virginia Municipal League's Self-Insurance <br />Association, informed Council that a very favorable loss ratio (of 40%) was <br />experienced for Virginia members participating in the workmen's compensation <br /> <br />insurance provided by the association. <br /> <br />Mayor Oakes declared this meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />W ~~ ~ <br /> erk of Council <br /> <br /> <br />
