TUESDAY, APRIL 25, 1989 <br /> <br />request is made by the Authority therefor. Meanwhile, Council concurred with <br />Councilman McClain's.suggestion that Mr. & Mrs. Robert Baron, operatorsof Blue <br />Ridge Airport, appear before Council and "brief" Council on the scope of <br />activities at the airport as well as on other matters, including development <br />plans, in which Mr. & Mrs. Baron feel, the Council might be interested. The <br />motion herein voted and carried was introduced by Councilman McClain who, in so <br />doing, expressed his concern with the grant application procedure which <br />involves, or might involve, the City of Martinsville without the Council being <br />apprised in advance thereof. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of a report prepared by Mr. J. Ronnie Minter, <br />Commissioner of the Revenue, showing the total numbers of applicants and the <br />numbers qualifying for real estate tax relief for elderlyand/or totally'and- <br />permanently disabled owners of property within the City of Martinsville, as <br />well as the total tax relief granted for the tax years 1982 through 1989.. For <br />1989, which reflected a considerable increase over prior years, there were 161 <br />qualifying property owners (10 disabled and 151 elderly) out of a total of 183 <br />applicants, for and to whom a total tax relief of $17,342.10 was granted. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of the following staff r.eports: <br /> <br />Financial report for the period ended March 31, 1989; <br /> <br />New requirements under the State's revised Freedom-Of- <br />Information Act; and <br /> <br />The status of the Manager's recent proposal to invite bids <br />from local banks to provide certain banking services to the <br />City. <br /> <br /> <br />
