TUESDAY, APRIL 25, 1989 <br /> <br />Council unanimously authorized Police Chief Terry L. Roop to file an <br /> <br />application for a highway safety project grant with the Virginia Department of <br />Motor'Vehicles seeking a Federal grant of $3,009.41 which, with a like amount <br /> <br />included in the tentatively-adopted 1989-90 City Budget, will be used tO <br /> <br />purchase radar replacement/speed enforcement equipment consisting of two KR-10 <br />SP Radar Units, dual antennas, two giant speed display boards, modification to <br />radar units, and drives for the display boards. Council noted that the filing <br />of this application and the acquisition of this equipment have the support and <br />endorsement of the Martinsville Transportation Safety. Commission. <br /> <br />By letter dated April 7, 1989, and in person at this meeting, Mr. Ralph J. <br />Pruitt, Vice President-Finance & Treasurer of Southwestern Virginia Gas <br />Company, notified Council that Southwestern Virginia Gas Company has .filed an <br />application with the (Virginia) State Corporation Commission for an expedited <br />increase of approximately 3.2% in rates/annual revenue to become effective with <br />gas service bills rendered on and after May 20, 1989. <br /> <br /> Council discussed with Mr. Jack F. Hankins, Attorney at Law and a member of the <br /> Blue Ridge Airport Authority (Board), the Authority's proposed 1989-90/1990-91 <br /> airport development program for which funding in the amount of $1,012,800 will <br /> be sought ($911,520Federal; $50,640 State; and $50,640 Local) through an <br /> application now in the clearinghouse process before the West Piedmont Planning <br /> District Commission. Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, <br /> <br /> Council asked the Planning District Commission to make a favorable comment on <br /> <br />~!the Authority's application and project, with the understanding and condition <br /> that the Council and the City of Martinsville are not committed to contribute <br /> its one-half share of the designated "$50,640 Local" thereto when, and if, <br /> <br /> <br />
