2 98 <br /> <br />action until a future Council meeting. <br />Councilman Adams seconded the motion. <br /> <br /> TUESDAY, DECEMBER 17, 1991 <br /> <br />~. <br />Councilman Adams then clarified the <br /> <br />previously-made motion as seconded by noting that the motion was made .to <br />determine, through a geo-technical study, if the existing land would be <br />suitable'for the City's use only. Mayor McClain asked Mr. Joyce if a geo- <br />technical study on the existing land that the City now owns would give some <br />idea of what the quality of the adjacent land might be. Mr. Joyce replied' <br />that it would give a general idea and a feel for the region, if the surface <br />features were similar. Vice Mayor Groden verified that his motion was to <br />investigate the City's land to ascertain if it would be suitable for future <br />development of a landfill. Councilman Oakes commented that the consultant <br />and the Acting City Manager should evaluate the situation related to the <br />City's existing site and then submit to the Council some related cost figures <br />and should also determine from Henry County what direction they are going to <br />pursue. Vice-Mayor Groden remarked that a delay by the City with regard to <br />the County might postpone the entire process. Councilman Oakes commented <br />that he thought it was too early to assume that there will not be a joint <br />I~ndfill, and, therefore, he felt that a signal should be sent to the County <br />that the City is still interested in working with them on the landfill, with <br />a°message being sent to the County indicating that the City is not going to <br />get in a position wherein it cannot comply with the State requirements/timing <br />and further that the City is going to consider pursuing what it needs to do <br />to develop its own landfill. Vice-Mayor Groden expressed-concern that the <br />County did not initially contact the City regarding its decision to <br />investigate an alternate site for a public facility near the Koehler <br />Community and~ he felt, that, if the County were contacted as suggested by <br />C6Uncilman Oakes, a decision regarding the construction of the required <br />landfill could be delayed again. There wassome discussion between members <br />of Council and two citizens in the audience as to whether Henry County <br /> <br /> <br />
