) 20 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, AUGUST 13, 1991 <br /> <br />Ms. Robertson for the thoroughness of the report. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged a report on the insured value of City property in which <br /> <br />Mr. .... Brown reported that the City was adequately insured for any natural <br /> <br />widespread disaster and for all specific facilities. <br /> <br />Mayor McClain announced that City Council and the City Manager wouidmhold a <br />retreat beginning at approximately 4:00 P.M. on August 23, 1991 at Townhouse <br />14B, Island Green Point, Smith Mountain Lake. <br /> <br />Mayor McClain'announced that .Council would meet with Mike Amyx, Executive <br />Director of the Virginia Municipal League, on August 27, 1991 at 3:00 P.M. to <br />discuss procedures for recruitment and selection of a new City Manager. <br /> <br />Vice-Mayor Groden noted an article which appeared in the August 12, 1991 <br /> edition of the Roanoke Times & World News which noted the high cost of <br /> plastic recycling by Franklin County. In response to questions, Public Works <br /> Director Leon Towarnicki stated that the City had not calculated the per ton <br /> cost of recycling plastic, instead the City has calculated that it pays <br /> approximately $35-40 per ton to recycle all of the materials which are <br /> collected at the two drop-off sites. Vice-Mayor Groden stated he would <br /> .-.='provide members of Council with copies of the article. Mr. Brown stated that <br /> '~ the'City was currently involved in serious negotiations with Henry County and <br /> a'private firm regarding the solid waste question and that provisions for <br /> recycling would be a part of those negotiations. <br /> <br />· -Mr. Matt Mattingly, of the Central Piedmont Private Industry' Council, <br />appeared and reviewed that agency,s job training activities in the community. <br /> <br /> <br />
