Tobin--Office on Youth Board (1988-91); and Alice Penn--Office on Youth <br />Board (1988-91). <br /> <br />Mayor McClain announced that Council would hold a dinner honoring Worth H. <br />Carter, Jr. and William W. Edwards, Jr. for service on the School Board and <br />City Manager George W. Brown for 40 years of service to the City on July 16, <br />1991 beginning at 6:30 P.M. at Chatmoss Country Club. <br /> <br />Councilconsidered a request which was tabled at the August 14, 1990 Council <br /> <br />meeting by the Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation to <br />amend. Section VIII, Paragraph C of the City's Zoning Ordinance tc allow <br />certain"light" industrial uses within the C-2 (CBD) Commercial Districtlby <br />Special Use-'Permit. In July, 1990, the Planning Commission (after holding <br />the required public hearing) recommended that Council adopt this amendment to <br />the Zoning Ordinance. Mr: Brown eXplained that C-2 District had been revised <br />when the downtown streetscaping program was in progress and that this <br />District had functioned well until the recent closing or relocation of major <br />retailestablishments such as Leggetts and Globman's department stores. The <br />recent closings have increased interest in the proposal which had been tabled <br />regarding the allowance of certain light industrial usage in the C-2 <br />District. Mr. Brown said that he had developed an alternative to the <br />Planning Commission's proposal which would allow the light industrial uses <br /> <br /> <br />
