TUESDAY, APRIL 16, 1991 <br /> <br />Councilconsidered the budget requests of 'the Fire Department~Purchasing <br />Department, Parks and Recreation Department and Public Works Department. <br />Fire Chief W. Lewis Reeves, Purchasing Agent J. Gary Via, Parks and <br />Recreation Director Herb Hughes, and Public Works Director Leon Towarnicki <br />were present to respond to questions by Council regarding the proposed <br />budgets for these departments. <br /> <br /> In reviewing the Housing Services Department budget, Mr. Brown explained that <br /> <br />";the..Housing:Fundwas.balanced and that no General Fund.~mQ~e~ld need to <br /> be transferred to the Housing. Fund regardless of whether or not the City was <br /> awarded either of the two housing grants which it has applied for. <br /> <br />In reviewing the budget proposal for the Electric Department, Council asked <br />the City Manager to review the possibility of adding another maintenance crew <br />to .~the Department, to determine if this might be more cost-effective than <br />using extensive overtime hours on the part of the existing crews. <br /> <br />In reviewing the Water Resources Department budget, an error in the amount of <br />approximately $120,000 was found in the "actual and estimated" column under <br />the Water' Fund. Mr. Brown said that this may mean a possible reduction in <br />the original recommended 15%water rate increase and that his recommendation <br />on this item would be revised prior to the next budget work session. In <br />response to a question by Councilman Oakes, Mr. Brown stated that, after <br />reviewing the. internal operations of the Public Works Department and Water- <br />Resources Departments, it may be possible to reduce the additional personnel <br />required to carry out the sewer infiltration investigation and repair program' <br />by one position.. <br /> <br />Upon.motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote~ Council:: accepted the <br /> <br /> <br />
