FRkDAY,.APRIL'5, 1991 <br /> <br />whichTwill..enable a specially-designed camera tobe run through ~the=~sewer <br />system· in order to identify the .problems. Mr. Brown explained'=that 6ne' <br />member of the crew would be transferred from the Sewer Maintenance Division <br />and that 2 new.positions would be required. Mr. Dyches explained that· the <br />City= wouldbe sharing the camera equipment with the Henry County Public' <br />Service Authority in order to make the program more cost-effective. <br /> <br />Mr. Brown stated that the City's structure of water and sewer rates compared <br />very favorably with those throughout the State, and distributed two sets of <br />rate comparison data for Council's review. <br /> <br />Inresponse to questions from Council, Mr. Brown confirmed that'the proposed <br />water rate increase was only necessary to continue a transfer of $250,000 to <br />the-General Fund.~ If the transfer were eliminated, no water rate increase <br />would be needed during FY91-92. <br /> <br />In~response ~tofurther questions from Council, Mr. Dyches and Mr. Brown <br />explained-that approximately 2/3 ofall water sold is used by the two major' <br />water-consuming-industries (Sara Lee Knit Products and Tultex)·. Overall, <br />commercial and industrial users account for approximately 70% of all water <br />use., <br /> <br />Mr. Brown stated that, in defense ·of the proposed water and sewer rate· <br />increases, the City's rates were considerably lower than those charged by the <br />Henry County PSA and that major waterTconsuming industries are located in <br />Henry-County. <br /> <br />Councilman .Adams requested that the City Manager provide Council with <br />information on Eden, N.C. water and sewer rates. <br /> <br /> <br />
