Chairman Cole asked the two local governments to: <br />(1) change some laws and add new ones to make the policeman's job easier; (2) <br />provide an interim prison facility within the next few months; (3) help in <br />any way to see that each school has adrug-free zone; and (4) take a look at <br />people who are unemployed but who want to work. <br /> <br />Robert Scott, Chairman of the Henry County Board of Supervisors, and Mayor <br />'McClain expressed appreciation to Chairman Cole for the presentation. <br />Council then recessed this portion of the meeting and adjourned back in the <br />Council Chamber. <br /> <br />Council considered a report by Adelphia Cable Communications on their future <br />operations. Mr. James Rigas, Vice-President of Operations of Adelphia Cable, <br />appeared and explained certain changes which would be occurring January 1, <br />1991. Mr. Rigas said that 60% of Martinsville's customers currently receive <br />the "standard service" consisting of 43 channels at a rate of $19.50 per <br />month. These customers are required to have an addressableconverter on each <br />television set in order to receive the 43 channels. Beginning January 1, <br />1991, those customers who have cable-ready televisions will be able to <br />receive~lall 43channels without needing an addressable converter. The new <br />ratefor this level of service will be $18.50 per'month. However, the charge <br />for additional outlets will increase from $2.25 to $3.00 per month. <br />Customers currently receiving the "economy service" (40% of subscribers who <br />payS12.75 per month for 21 channels) will need to choose between this level <br />'·of service or downgrade to "broadcast-service". "Broadcast service" will <br />consist of sixteen television stations and access 'channels and will be <br />offered at a' rate of $8.50 per month. In order to choose this service, <br />customers will be required to pay a one-time installation charge of $50°00 to <br /> <br /> <br />
