.~ ~ TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 1990 <br /> <br />Chairman.Cole introduced Ms Norma Gardner, Chairman of the SpecialProjects <br />Committee. .Ms. Gardner reviewed the accomplishments of the Special Projects <br />Committee,.among which were the publication of a Drug Task Force Brochure and <br />the publication of the first newsletter of the Task Force. Future projects <br />for the Committee include: (1) work with local libraries in reviewing, <br />expanding or providing prevention literature; (2). develop a resource of <br />individuals or businesses who will provide weekly advertisements specific to <br />prevention in the local newspaper; (3) distribute prevention posters to local <br />businesses for display; (4) establish a group to work with the Commonwealth <br />Attorney's Office where pictures of convicted drug dealers would be displayed <br />for youth awareness; (5) establish a group which would find land to be <br />donated for the purpose of building a permanent billboard to be used for <br />prevention purposes; (6) develop and implement a process where anonymous <br />citizen reporting of illegal drug activities can occur; (7) gather <br />information specific to activities and projects related to drug prevention <br />that are currently being supported or accomplished by local groups and <br />organizations; (8) assist WesAshley of the Henry County Sheriff's Department <br />with a spring basketball camp for the youth of the community; and (9) <br />establish and implement a yearly sports camp with professional participation. <br /> <br />Chairman Cole introduced Mr. Ralph Lester, Chairman of the Finance Committee. <br />Mr. Lester said that 60 contributors have contributed nearly $50,000 to the <br />Task Force ( including $20,000 from the City and County) . Mr. Lester <br />recognized the special accomplishments in 'this area by Committee member <br />Edward Gravely.. <br /> <br />Chairman Cole concluded by stating that the drug problem may be too big for <br />the Task Force. Chairman Cole said that if the'Community is to win the fight <br />against drugs, it must involve everyone. He said that he felt the war on <br /> <br /> <br />
