!'20 <br /> <br />.-.TU~.SDAY., NOVEMBER 27, 1990 <br /> <br />Chairman 'Cole introduced Mr. Joseph Finley, Chairman of the Prevention and <br /> <br />Education Committee. Mr. Finley reviewed a "report card" which the Committee <br /> <br />had given itself. The Committee graded itself in the areasof public apathy~ <br />coordination of local drug programs, research, and various drug-related <br />programs and activities of the 'Committee over the last year. <br /> <br />Chairman Cole introduced Ms. Bonnie Favero, Chairman of CADRE (Commonwealth <br />Alliance for'Drug Rehabilitation and Education). Ms. Favero reviewed CADRE's <br />objectives for 89-90: (1) publish and distribute 10,000 copies of the <br />Parents Guide; (2) formation and training for facilitators of Families <br />Anonymous; (3) training for faci!itators in each school for Children of <br />Substance Abusers groups; and (4) video program "Community Summit" to create <br />awareness and education on drug issues. Objectives for 90-91 included the <br />following: (1) implementation of Drug-Free School Zones project; (2) <br />programming designed for National Drunk and Drugged Driving Awareness Week; <br />and (3) continuing the "Community Summit" program. <br /> <br />· Chairman Cole introduced Dr. Elizabeth Vaughan, former Chairman of the <br />Rehabilitation Committee. Dr. Vaughan emphasized the following points <br />regarding the Committee: (1) community involvement; (2) enhanced scope (City <br />and County involvement)~ (3) the new Day Treatment Program; (4) the Safe <br />Neighborhoods Project; and (4) an enlargement of the focus of the Drug Task <br />Force in recognizing alcohol as a drug of abuse. Future areas of concern for <br />the Committee include the following: (1) eliminate unnecessary duplication <br />of services; (2) find a way to educate people about the rehabilitation <br />programs already in place; (3) prisoners and parolees need more attention; <br />( 4 ) prescription drug abuse; and ( 5 )' more intensive treatment programs for <br />teenagers.
