TUSSDAY, NOVEMS,SR-20 1990 <br />Section2.-Of the notebook contained financial information from the School <br />System.~ Part of this section contained a supplemental appropriation request <br />for the 1990-91 Fiscal Year of $159,831, which included sources of <br />expenditures not originally budgeted of $84,500. Also, $75,331 was listed as <br />a net revenue shortfall due to reductions in State revenues. Upon motion, <br />duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council moved to defer consideration of <br />the supplemental appropriation request until its regular meeting scheduled <br />for November 27, 1990, when the City Manager is scheduled to present a report <br />on the City's response to reductions in revenues from the State. <br /> <br /> In response to a question by Councilman Oakes, Mr. Epperly stated that the <br /> School.-System had spent all but $120 of its ~appropriated funds in FY89-90. <br /> Mayor McClain ~noted that the total number of Schools'System personnel for <br /> FY90-91 was 360.15, up from 349.3 in FY89-90. Chairman Carter-noted that <br /> additional-personnel..were added due to State mandates regarding special <br /> education. Mr. Lamm said that he had attended a meeting of 'education <br /> officials from around the State and that the issue of mandates is being <br /> <br />widely discussed. - .~ .~ <br /> <br />Section 3'of the notebook contained a Computer Technology Report. Chairman <br />Carter noted that the School Board had not yet considered the computer plan <br />as contained in the report. Various members of Councilurged~the School <br />officials to communicate with City staff to determine if some joint efforts <br />could be conducted in the computerization area. Councilman Oakes stated that <br />he had been concerned about computer training for students and that he hoped <br />this would be an area of emphasis in the future ,_ <br /> <br />Section 4 of the notebook contained highlights of various School programs. <br />Councilman Oakes expressed concern that students in. college preparatory <br /> <br /> <br />
