NOVEMBER 20. 1990 <br /> <br />Aspecial and duly-called meeting ofI the Council of the City~of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor Allan McClain presiding, was held Tuesday, November 20, <br /> <br />1990 in the School Board Room at Albert Harris Middle School, beginning at <br />11:00 A.M. for the purpose of holding~a joint meeting with the City School <br /> <br />Board. <br /> <br />All members of Council were present: <br /> <br />Allan McClain, Mayor; Alfred <br /> <br />T. Groden, Vice-Mayor; George B. Adams, Jr.; L.D. Oakes; and Clyde L. <br /> <br />Williams. <br /> <br />Those in attendance from the School Board were: Worth Ho Carter, Jr., <br />Chairman; William W. Edwards, Jr., Vice-Chairman; Johnnie L. Jones;Roger D. <br /> <br />Martin; and Judith K. Matthews. Also in attendance were Harold Lamm, <br /> <br />Superintendent of Schools; Ron Epperly, Assistant Superintendent for Business <br /> <br />and Finance; Nancy Brammer, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction; J. <br /> <br />Michael Rolen, Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services; Ralph <br /> <br />Nelson,~Principal, Martinsville High School; and various other administrative <br />officials of the School System. <br /> <br />After the invocation, followed by opening remarks by Chairman Carter and <br />Mayor'McClain, a slide presentation.was given on the City and on School <br />programs.~ -I <br /> <br />Council then began a review of a notebook of infol~nation which had been <br />provided by the School System° The first section contained enrollment data. <br />In response to a questionby Councilman Oakes, Chairman Carter and other <br />officials stated that the 1990-91 projected enrollment for the School System <br />should approximate 2,854 students. In response to a follow-up question by <br />Councilman Oakes, Chairman Carter stated that the FY90-91 School Budget was <br />built on this projected enrollment, Chairman Carter stated that School <br />officials were encouraged by the increasing number of Kindergarten students. <br /> <br /> <br />
