108 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, JUNE 9, 1992 <br /> <br />which has been organized by the Chamber of Commerce: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a quality system of education is vital to the economic growth <br />and success of our community; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a business and education cooperative has been organized in our <br />community under the leadership of the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber <br />of Commerce; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this group of ind~lstry, business, government, and educational <br />leaders in this community recognizes that the improvement of our public <br />education system has mutual benefits for all parties; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this local alliance has already established partnerships <br />between a number of local industries and specific schools (such as <br />Tultex and Albert Harris and Carver Middle Schools and Sara Lee Knit <br />Products and Martinsville'Junior High School) which are geared toward <br />meeting the needs ofboth partners; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Martinsville concurs with the goal <br />of improving public education and creating a high value of education by <br />promoting a more active partnership between the public and schools; <br /> <br />NOW, THEP~FORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville that, on this ninth day of June, 1992, it does hereby <br />express its wholehearted endorsement of the partnership concept and <br />does encourage participation in the program by the City of Martinsville <br />schools and business and industries in the City. <br /> <br />Council considered approval of a Six-Year Comprehensive Juvenile <br />Delinquency Prevention Plan for the Office on Youth of Martinsville and <br />Henry County. Reverend Tyler Millner, member of the Office on Youth <br />Board, and Ms. Delthine Watson, Director of the Office, were present to <br />comment on the Plan and to respond to questions from Council. Upon <br />motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council endorsed the Plan. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council approved the <br />following supplemental appropriations: (1) an appropriation of $360.00 <br />to the Police Department's Drug Abuse Program line item from assets <br />seized and funds returned to the City through the U.S. Department of <br />Justice; and (2) an appropriation of $113.40 to the Drug Abuse Program <br />line item from assets seized and funds returned through the State <br />Department of Criminal Justice Services. <br /> <br /> <br />
